Applying at Open School

There’s nothing to bring. Our team will help you complete the online application at the end of your session, and we’ll send payment details digitally afterward. For families new to RST, an English assessment is scheduled separately at a later date.

Applications open to all families on November 1st, and families who attend Open School receive priority.

A school where every child can shine

 Here are a few things you’ll hear more about at Open School.

Learning through projects
Most of the day is spent on team-based projects that can run for days, weeks or months, alongside dedicated English and math blocks. The curriculum draws on the IB Primary Years Programme and Common Core standards.

My Own Time
Time set aside each week for children to choose and plan their own work, with access to ateliers, special materials, guest teachers and specialists.

Ateliers and the arts
An expanded atelier that combines traditional materials with modern tools, plus a professional artist’s studio and gallery where children work alongside creators from many fields.

A classroom without borders
Children learn from professionals around Shimokitazawa, take monthly trips across Tokyo, spend two weeks each year at our Nature Campus in rural Japan, and in Grade 5 plan their own study-abroad trip.
